Domestic handsets maker Karbonn has ambitious plans to achieve a turnovre of Rs. 4000-5000 croe for the fiscal 2013-2014. This confidence has emanated from the huge success of its range of Android smartphones introduced by the company in India. Karbonn is the second company after Micromax, which is gung ho about its success and has chartered a very promising business module for its future.
In an interview to Press Trust of India, Mr. Pradeep Jain, Managing Director of Karbonn, said,”” Our target is between Rs 4,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore in 2013-14 and if you see our past, our growth year on year is almost double. The way we are growing and the way market is growing, we see an exponential growth in smartphones.” The company touched revenues of Rs 2,400 crore last financial year. Mr. Jain is very optimistic about the growth potential of the company and added that the company will be aiming for sales between Rs 8,000 crore-Rs 9,000 crore by 2014-15.
Currently, Karboon is not manufacturing the smartphones in India, but getting it assembled in China, the way the leading companies like Apple etc,. get it done. However, Karbonn is doing all the mechanical design, software, R&D in India and the manufacturing of the phones is done in China through contract manufacturers, which are plenty in China.
However, they have plans to start assembing the devices at their Chennai facility by the January or February, 2014 and will employ around 250 people to start this operation.
To get the push in sales of its smartphones, the company has earmarked Rs 250 crore as the marketing budget for 2013-14. The target of Karbonn is to achieve monthly sales of 1 million for its smartphones by December 2013. This is not asking for the moon as the company has been launching smartphones on regular basis to meet the budjet and expectations of all the segments.
