Non Professional Response By Airtel To Pesky Call, Spam SMS Complaint’s

Despite registration with service providers for Do Not Disturb (DND) service, there was really no disturbance initially  for few days by unsolicited calls and Smses. But of late, it appears, unsolicited calls and Smses are back with vengeance.

I have been receiving lot of pesky calls from telemarketer’s and spam Sms’s from real estate agents, credit card companies, astrologers, Pan card/passport service providers, etc. To test the efficacy of the DND service, I have  complained to my service provider – Airtel. To my utter surprise, I have received the following reply from them:

Investigations have been completed. The SMS came from an international service provider and does not fall under the preview of the NCPR regulations. Consultation is on with TRAI to identify the senders and to evaluate the recourse.

To my another complaint of pesky calls, Airtel has replied:

“With reference to your complaint no xxxx, no action has been taken on the complaint due to insufficient details. Kindly revalidate and register a fresh complaint.”

This is totally non-professional and unacceptable response. I have provided them telephone numbers, time of the call and subject of the call and only these details were sought by them while registering my complaint and based on that they provided me complaint number. If after 3 days, they want me to re-register the complaint then it is anybody’s guess how serious are they to address the problems faced by the mobile users.

It can be inferred from the attitude of the service provider that they are not interested to stop the menace of pesky calls and spam text messages because of vested interests. TRAI should take note of these problems and as written by me earlier, should plug loopholes as early as possible.

If you had a similar experience with your operator then do share your experience. I’d love to know which service provider is/isn’t considering the plight of it’s subscribers.

  1. I have a Airtel sim and every day i receive a spam text and they charge me 1 inr for the privilege of that !
I then got spam text from same company and it said if i dont want to receive text messages from them message back on this number *321* 850# and guess what they charged me 15inr for that and then text back and said i will now receive counselling for immigration to Canada !
I never ever text text them anytime.
Easy money for them. Do that to a few million people and its easy money for them.
The text messages come through with out a number on them so cant block them.
Only thing to do is get a new sim card now .

  2. Jatinder,
Why don’t you try getting some email addresses(including airtel support) and report the same. I think they will do somethi ng on it. atleast you have evidence on what you have done.

  3. I’m using bsnl. After Am in DND, I dint got any market calls… With the new marketing calls and sms guidelines, in force, am almost shielded from similar incidents 🙂

  4. I too have a Airtel connection and I downloaded a Java game online and Airtel charged me Rs25/- for that and after that every U am being charged Rs5/- I uninstalled the game tried to contact Customer service but they wont be connected and I am not thinking to recharge my phone now. This is really a rediculous act by Airtel they know how get peaole subscribed but they dont give an option to unsubscribe the service as I check the whole Airtel Live webpage. they should really learn professionalism.
