Samsung has unveiled Galaxy S III Mini, which is stripped down version of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S III. The phone features a 4″ inch Super AMOLED display, and runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS.

This phone is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz processor, which will be much slower than the 1.4 GHz quad-core processor used in the S III. The phone will be available in 8 GB and 16 GB variants, which will support microSD card up to 32 GB. Its connectivity options include WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. Weighing 111.5 g, the Galaxy S III comes packed with a 1,500 mAh battery, compared to  2,100 mAh in the S III. Rear camera in the S III Mini has been scaled down to 5 MP, from the 8 MP snapper that came with the S III.

The Galaxy S III Mini inherits Galaxy S III’s features like S Voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call and S Beam.

S Voice –  Samsung’s advanced natural language recognition software, which lets users use their voice to unlock the phone with simple customised commands, or to play their favourite songs, turn the volume up or down, organise schedule,or automatically launch the camera and start taking photos.

Smart Stay –  The phone’s camera tracks your eyes and keeps the screen lit as long as you are looking at it. When reading a text message from a friend, Direct Call enables you to automatically dial a call simply by lifting the phone to your ear, and Smart Alert alerts you to missed calls or messages as soon as you pick up your phone.

S Beam –  feature lets you share a 10MB music file in just two seconds by simply tapping on another S Beam-enabled device including Galaxy S III or Galaxy Note II, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The ‘Buddy photo share’ function also allows photos to be simultaneously shared with all your friends pictured in an image directly from the camera or the photo gallery.

There is  no word on the pricing and availability of the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini globally as well as in India. However, India is one of the biggest markets for Samsung and it is expected that the phone will soon be officially launched in the country. This Mini version is speculated to be in the price range of approx Rs. 27,000.
