Sony India today unveiled its latest smartphone – Xperia Tipo – in the Indian market. The Xperia Tipo, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which is now available across the country, is designed for music and multimedia lovers who want to listen to playlists, and watch their favourite music videos, on-the-go. The new smartphone will be run by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and is built on strong battery life and expandable storage of up to 32 GB, in addition to a free 50 GB cloud offer from Box.
The entry level Xperia tipo, priced affordably at Rs. 9,999 and comes in two versions: single SIM and Dual. The single SIM tipo comes bundled with exciting new apps and accessories to let consumers feast their senses, and be immersed in music. The Xperia tipo Dual is priced at Rs. 10,449, and is perfect for consumers who do not wish to carry two mobile phones for different SIM cards. Another unique feature of Double Sim tipo smartphone is that there is hardware key on the device for switching from one SIM to another SIM, which is of first of its kind in Dual SIM smartphones. These phones are available in red, white, blue and black colors.
This is the first time that Sony has come out with Dual SIM smartphone. Probably, this initiative is in the right direction as Samsung has come out with many Android smartphones with Dual SIM capabilities in mid-level range, and Sony would be posing tough challenge to Samsung with tipo smartphone.
Sony’s new arrival is targetted for younger customers who love music and who may be purchasing their first smartphone. The Xperia tipo comes bundled up with pre-loaded apps such as Bollywood Hungama, Dainik Jagran, and Cricbuzz, on both – single and dual SIM devices. In addition to this, Xperia tipo users will enjoy access to appXtra, for exclusive access to music applications.
According to Sony India, 58% of market share of smartphone in India is of sub 10k devices and this is the reason that Sony has come out with Tipo range of smartphones to get maximum leverage in this price segment. Sony has approx. 9% market share of smartphones in India.

Sony India also announced its new marketing campaign ‘Feast your senses’ supported by a TV ad campaign. The new Xperia tip will be available in 44 exclusive Xperia outlets in India and Sony India has plans to increase its exclusive outlets in due course of time.
