The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) kicked off their annual Best Cover of the Year Contest yesterday, honoring the most memorable, compelling and iconic magazine covers of 2011. The Reader’s Choice award is hosted by Amazon.com, Inc., and Amazon.com customers can now vote for their favorite covers on the company’s website. This is Amazon’s third year hosting the contest – in past years, hundreds of thousands of customers participated in choosing the best covers of 2009 and 2010.
Amazon.com customers have until April 21 to vote for the best cover in each of the 10 categories, followed by an eight-day voting period to choose the Reader’s Choice best cover overall. The vote will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of 10 Kindle Fire devices in the Amazon.com Best Covers of the Year Sweepstakes.
Customers can view and vote on any of the nearly 300 submitted covers in 10 categories: Celebrity and Entertainment, Men’s Interest, Most Delicious, Business & Technology, Lifestyle, Sports and Adventure, Health and Fitness, Science and Nature, Women’s Interest, and News and Politics. Once finalists are determined in each category, a final voting period will open onApril 22 and run through April 30 to determine the Reader’s Choice best cover of the year across all categories. The Reader’s Choice winner will be announced in New York City onMay 2 at the ASME annual meeting, and posted on the Amazon website.
