South Korean giant has launched today its latest premium smartphone LG G3 in India at a grand event held in Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. This smartphone was unveiled by the Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan. The LG G3 is priced at Rs. 47,990 (16 GB variant), Rs. 50,990 (32 GB variant). On this occasion, LG also released G watch and limited edition of LG G3 smartphone signed by Amitabh Bachchan (15000 units available). The LG G3 was introduced in Korea, UK, USA, Singapore and Turkey in the month of May and have been appreciated a lot in these markets.
The G3 smartphone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and will also work on 4G LTE networks in India besides 3G. The design of LG G3 is elegant and has metallic skin with matte finish which will keep it clean and fingerprint-free. The G3 will be available in five colors: Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red. This smartphone also has the Rear Key and a newly designed power key and volume buttons, which have been pioneered by LG.
The key feature of G3’s is its breathtaking 5.5 inch Quad HD display having a pixel density of 538 ppi, which sets new viewing standard producing images that are sharper and clearer than traditional smartphone displays. LG G3 is equipped with a 3,000 mAh removable battery and to further maximize battery efficiency, LG has replaced the metal in the battery cathode with graphite, which will also extend the lifespan of the battery.
The LG G3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (up to 2.5 GHz Quad-Core), paired with 2 GB RAM having 16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM which has 32 GB internal storage, which can be further expanded upto 128 GB via microSD card.
In optics department also, the G3 has convincing features. It is equipped with 13 MP OIS+ camera with innovative Laser Auto Focus, which is the first of its kind in the smartphone industry. According to LG, this technology enables the G3 to capture the best moment — even in low light — by measuring the distance between the subject and the camera using a laser beam. Rather than having to focus on the subject in preview mode and then pressing the shutter button, with the G3, tapping the subject to focus will simultaneously also trigger the shutter. Moreover, the G3’s 2.1 MP front camera incorporates several new enhancements such as a larger image sensor and larger aperture for more light throughput and better-looking selfies.
The other connectivity features of G3 are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready (Apt-X), NFC, SlimPort, A-GPS/Glonass, USB 2.0. This smartphone measures 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm and its weight is 149 grams.
The G3 also incorporates the following new UX features of LG, which puts this smartphone on different league:
Smart Keyboard: Based on Adaptive technology, it is claimed to reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what word the user intended to type. The height of the keyboard can also be adjusted to better fit the user’s hands and position of the thumbs. Individual keys can also be customized with frequently used symbols for even faster input.
Smart Notice: provides suggestions and recommendations based on user behavior, phone usage patterns and location to offer user information when it’s needed the most. Smart Notice can remind you of a call you declined earlier and ask if you would like to call that person back. If you have a large number of un used files or apps on the G3 taking up valuable space, Smart Notice will ask if you would like to delete or uninstall them. But what sets Smart Notice apart from other personal assistants is its natural language capabilities. For example, instead of just displaying today’s temperature and weather forecast, Smart Notice will make a recommendation that you must carry an umbrella as it will rain later in the day. Whether the last feature will work in India, will be interesting to see.
The LG G3 also offer enhanced security features such as Knock Code, which enables users to unlock their device with a pattern of taps; Content Lock, which keeps personal files safe and hidden from view when sharing the G3 with friends, and Kill Switch, which gives G3 owners the ability to disable their phones remotely in the event of theft.
The other features of the LG G3 include a 1 watt speaker with Boost Amp. LG has also introduced very useful accessories for the G3, such as the QuickCircle Case, which allows easy access from the QuickCircle window without opening the cover. It also features ‘Smart Lighting’ around the circular window. The bluetooth stereo handset, Tone Infinim, which besides delivering premium audio quality in a stylish design, also provides vibration alerts for incoming call or message, current time, and battery status.
As an introductory offer, LG is offering discount of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,500 worth quick circle case for G3 and a one time screen replacement of Rs. 6,5000, valid on purchase of both LG G3 and G watch. The G3 will give stiff competition to Samsung Galaxy S5 and the recently introduced HTC One MI 8 which are also 4G compliant.
