FreeCharge, India’s digital payments platform, today announced the launch of Gas bill payment (pipeline gas connection) service for customers on its website and Android app. FreeCharge has associated with five major Gas Pipeline providers including Mahanagar Gas Ltd, Indraprasth Gas, Gujarat Gas Company Limited, GSPC Gas Company Limited and Adani Gas hence enabling consumers across regions of Delhi & NCR, Mumbai and Gujarat.
With this addition of five gas providers, FreeCharge has further strengthened its online utility bill payment category by adding new billers to electricity bill payment services and also introducing landline bill payments. FreeCharge’s aim is to help customers transact online more actively and launch services which enables them to seamlessly pay all their utility bills in a secure manner in less than 10 seconds from the confines of their home, office or while on the move.
To this major addition, Kunal Shah, Co-Founder & CEO, FreeCharge, said, “There are transactions that we love to do and transactions that we do not really like to do. FreeCharge’s aim is to convert all the mundane transactions that customers have to do but do not really enjoy into a rewarding experience. Since the time we have launched electricity bill payment services, the response has been really good and we expect similar response for Gas and landline bill payment services. We also plan to introduce LPG cylinder refill payments on our platform in coming months in line with our major merchant’s plans. Our vision is to bring about a behavioral change by organizing the bill payments market in India by digitizing payments and creating ‘digital habits’. We will be launching more new categories in the utility segment, and further contribute significantly towards the Digital India vision of the government.”
FreeCharge had started with eight electricity boards in August, but has now partnered with 21 electricity boards, quickly scaling the services to cater to customer requirements across India. Some of the leading electricity include BEST, BSES, NDPL and BESCOM among others, providing the facility of paying electricity bills to the users across all major cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi & NCR, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Gujarat, Assam, Tripura, Chhattisgarh and many more.
The services in the telecom bill segment is now extended to landline bill payments and customers can pay Airtel and BSNL landline bills across the country along with MTNL in Delhi.
