Samsung has launched today its Gear S3 smartwatch in two varaints – Classic and Frontier. The Classic variant has only Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi connectivity whereas the Frontier variant also supports LTE besides Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Both the variants run on Tizen OS and were unveiled at the IFA 2016 in Berlin. Both the variants are priced Rs. 28,500 and will go on sale from 18th of January, 2017.
The Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch super AMOLED circular display with a resolution of 360×360pixels (278 ppi) which comes with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection to withstand accidental damage.
This watch is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor combined with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It is packed with a 380mAh battery with wireless charging and power saver mode to further extend the battery life. It is claimed to last for up to four days on a single charge.
Samsung Gear S3 has a circular rotating bezel and without touching the screen, users can accept or reject a call or snooze an alarm. The Classic version has very refined appearance whereas the Frontier as shown above is a rugged version. It offers other connectivity options of GPS, NFC for mobile payments and easy pairing. It is water and dust resistance with IP68 certification and comes with built-in speaker to make and receive phone calls.
The Gear S3 offers ‘hyper-connectedness’ with the Remote Connectivity feature that allows the Gear S3 to receive phone notifications way beyond the limits of BT or WiFi. This smartwatch has built-in GPS which enables users to accurately monitor their daily fitness activities while the Alti/barometer and Speedometer allow users to track everything from altitude and atmospheric pressure to sudden changes in weather, distance traveled and speed.
The Gear S3 has Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer sensors. It also comes with SOS feature which can be activated by triple-tap on the screen. Once activated it will notify your friends and family in the event of an emergency.
