Xiaomi has launched its flagship smartphone Mi 8 at an event in China. This is the first smartphone from stable of Xiaomi which comes with Notch display. Xiaomi Mi 8 boasts of very powerful hardware and has all the ingredients to take head on with recently launched OnePlus 6.
On the specifications front, the Mi 8 is a huge phone as it sports a 6.21 inch (2248 × 1080 pixels) Full HD+ Samsung AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:7:9 and 88.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. This phone is powered by 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 630 GPU. The processor of this phone is claimed to have AnTuTu benchmark score of 301,472. This phone comes with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM with storage variants of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB which are not extendable. This is Dual SIM phone and runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo 8.1. This phone is packed with 3400mAh battery with fast charge.
On the optics front, this phone has two primary cameras. First one is
12MP with Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4 micron pixels, 4 axis OIS, dual pixel autofocus, 4K video recording, AI portraits, AI scene detection and secondary 12MP rear camera with Samsung S5K3M3 sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.0 micron pixels and 2X zoom. For selfies this phone has 20MP front camera f/2.0 aperture, 1.8-micron pixels with features of AI portrait selfies and AI Beautitfy.
For security this phone has fingerprint sensor on the back and infrared face unlock feature.
On the other hand, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes in one variant of 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB storage with see through back panel. It is packed with 3000mAh battery with fast charge. This variant also has in-display fingerprint sensor which was introduced by Vivo also on Vivo X21. This variant comes with 3D Face unlock feature.
Both the variants offer connectivity options of Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11acv(dual-band, 2.4GHz and 5GHz) ), Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band GPS with L1/ L5 signal support, NFC, USB Type-C.
Pricing of Mi 8 in China:
- CNY 2,699 (approx. Rs. 29,000) for 6GB RAM/ 64GB ROM
- CNY 2,999 (approx. Rs. 32,000) for 6GB RAM/ 128GB ROM
- CNY 3,299 (approx. Rs. 35,000) for 6GB RAM/ 256GB ROM
This varaint will be available in White, Gold, Light Blue, and Black colours.
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is priced CNY 3,699 (approx. Rs. 39,000). Both the variants will go on sale in China from 5th June. There is no information when this phone will arrive in India.
