The greatest annual electronics show opened today in Las Vegas, US, where world-renowned companies are showcasing their latest products. We give below synopsis of few products relevant for our curious readers:

Huawei Ascend D2 with 5 inch screen and Ascend Mate with 6.1-inch screen

As blogged by us earlier, 2013 will be the year of phablets and after resounding success of Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II of Samsung, more companies will come out with smartphones having larger screens to bridge the gap between smartphone and tablet. Keeping in tune with the latest trend of bigger screens, Huawei of China has showcased Ascend Mate with 6.1 inch screen to compete with Galaxy Note II of Samsung.

The Ascend D2 features 5 inch display, has a high-definition screen with 443 pixels per inch compared with the most advanced Samsung and Apple phones, with resolutions closer to the 300 pixels per inch range. The Ascend D2 also has a powerful 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and a 13-megapixel rear camera, long-lasting battery with enough life to power the phone “for two days’ work.”

The Ascend Mate device has a 6.1-inch display, which will make it the biggest-screen smartphone in the world, according to Huawei. Samsung’s biggest smartphone to date, the Galaxy Note II has a 5.5-inch display. Despite being larger, the Ascend Mate has a little less power and a lower screen resolution. The 6.1-inch phone uses a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and has a 720p HD resolution. It has an 8-megapixel rear camera.

Both phones run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

The company plans to start selling the Ascend D2 in China in January and in Japan and other countries later on.  The Ascend Mate will be available in China in February and in the rest of the world in the following months. However, the company has not disclosed yet the prices of these two devices.

Samsung’s OLED  TV that lets people watch two shows at same time

Samsung has unveiled  The F9500 television, which is the first in the world to offer this feature, dubbed “multi-view.”  In this television the latest generation of screen technology called ” organic light-emitting diode or OLED is used. The feature allows two people “to watch completely different Full-HD content simultaneously on the same screen with corresponding audio and controls.”

Joe Stinziano, a senior Samsung official in the US, emphasized at a press conference that “it’s only possible in OLED due to the very fast speed” at which images can move across the screen with the technology. So that they see just the show they want, the two viewers must wear special 3D glasses, which come with personal speakers built in to deliver the audio, in stereo, directly to them.

OLED TVs don’t require separate backlights and thus are thinner, consume about 20 percent less power and offer a sharper picture than conventional flat-panel sets. Samsung hasn’t indicated the price or release date of its television, which will be 55 inches.

Sony Xperia Z
