Samsung is really pushing the Galaxy S4 to different directions. Looks like, they want to cover every base by offering different options for different types of consumers. In fact, there are now 5 versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4, each one with a special feature that separates it from the rest.
The original Galaxy S4
The first variant, of course, is the original Galaxy S4. It comes with the new Touchwiz skin that contains most of the new features that Samsung is heavily marketing, such as the S-Translator, S-Health, improved S-Voice, Smart pause, and Smart Scroll. This is backed up by a 1.9 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM. That is more than enough power for all major tasks including VoIP and streaming. It also has a 13MP camera with lots of fun features like dual-shot mode.
The camera version – Galaxy S4 Zoom
This is like a midrange digital camera that is fitted with phone capabilities than the other way around, especially with that big 16MP sensor sticking from the back. What really makes this device special is that this will be the first Android phone to pack a 10x optical zoom, which improves your ability to take much more stable pictures even in low light conditions. It also features Samsung’s Touchwiz Nature UX skin.
Google Version of Galaxy S4
Google has also released their version of the powerful Galaxy phone. Initially, everyone thought it will also bear the Nexus name but it turns out that it doesn’t. Instead, it was called Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition. But even without the Nexus name, the deal is still the same. It has the same hardware specs as the original Galaxy S4, only it will feature a skinless phone. This means pure Jellybean and quicker OS updates. What you will lose, however, are the fun features that come with the Touchwiz skin. Plus, the price tag is $649. That is a lot of money for something you can get for $200 on a 2-year contract in US.
The Durable – Water and Dust Proof Galaxy S4
This is sort of like the Xperia version of the Galaxy S4, except it is not from Sony but still from Samsung. It has an almost identical spec sheet to the original S4 except that it has an 8MP camera instead of a 13MP one. But what really sets it apart from the other S4 variants is that it is dust and water proof. You can submerge this phone and take pictures and videos with it up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The budget phone – Galaxy S4 Mini
If you do not have $649 to spare and you do not want to be tied to a contract, maybe what you need is a scaled down version of the Galaxy S4. And that is what the Galaxy S4 Mini is. It will have most of the features you will find in the original but will be presented in lower hardware specs. It will have a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen, an 8MP camera, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 64GB through a micro SD slot.
If you want a Samsung Galaxy S4, you are no longer limited to just one model. So what do you think suits you best?
