Nokia’s latest flagship smartphone Lumia 1020 launched yesterday has one key feature that is its 41 megapixel Pureview sensor. Unlike any smartphone in the market today the Nokia Lumia 1020 reinvents zoom, enabling people to discover more detail than the eye can see. With Nokia’s innovative PureView technology, including optical image stabilization, the device is able to produce some of the sharpest images possible by any digital camera.
With Nokia Pro Camera application, it is easy for anyone to take professional quality images, and edit and share photos and videos with unrivaled clarity. Since majority of people using camera functions on a smartphone are not professional photographer, the Lumia 1020 give you ample opportunities to capture the image first and zoom later. You can reframe the photo afterwards to make it perfect using Nokia Pro Camera application.
Using a new feature called dual capture, the Nokia Lumia 1020 simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a 5 megapixel picture that is easy to share to social networks with Windows Phone 8.
The Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41 megapixel sensor features leading ZEISS optics with six physical lenses, plus optical image stabilization, delivering crystal clear pictures even in low light conditions.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 also captures blur-free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concert with the help of Nokia Rich Recording tool, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.
The Lumia 1020 with powerful camera has been created with the Nokia belief that since more than 1.3 billion people use Nokia devices every day for capturing images and sharing, more and more people would be interested in their highly powerful camera fitted in a smartphone. But our argument is that capturing of image is one aspect of smartphone and the prospective buyers look into other features of a smartphone before making their decision.
The other hardware features of Lumia 1020 are ok and it sports a 4.5-inch AMOLED WXGA (1280×768) display. Nowadays 5 inch screen is the norm and if Lumia 1020 had bigger screen then it could have a better chance to score over competitive phones. It also includes a 2.5 D sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This smartphone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory.
The phone runs on Microsoft’s Windows phone 8. It also has a HD 1.2 megapixel wide angle front camera, and is packed with a 2000 mAh battery. It does not include built-in wireless charging, but it suppports wireless charging via an attachable cover.
For the strange reasons, Nokia has not disclosed the price of Lumia 1020 at the launch event. The price is expected to be in the range of Rs. 48,000 and at this price-point, we are afraid one might not rush to retail store to get this device just for its USP of 41MP camera. If your sole moto is to do photography on this device then you may go for it, but if it is priced near 50K then even professionals might rethink before possessing it. It all depends upon its final price and in our opinion if this device has to make a mark in this highly competitive and price-sensitive market then it should be priced around Rs. 38K.
