As expected, the leading Indian handsets maker is all set to launch two Windows based smartphones in India on 16th June. Microsoft has sent out the media invite for the launch event which will take place in New Delhi. We have also been invited for this event and shall be covering the same.
Micromax is expected to launch two smartphones running on the Windows 8.1 OS of Microsoft. These smartphones will be in Micromax’s highly successful category of CANVAS range. Although Micromax has not shared the details about their upcoming Windows phone, but it is speculated that the mid-range Micromax Canvas Windows phone will feature a 5-inch full-HD display, and will be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage with a capacity to expand it further to 64GB via microSD card. This phone would be equipped with 13MP rear and 5MP front shooters and would be fuelled by a 2800mAh batery.
As far as entry-level Micromax Windows phone is concerned, it could have 4.7 inches display and is expected to come with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
The mid-range CANVAS Windows smartphone is expected to be priced around Rs. 11,000 whereas the lower-end phone could be around Rs. 6,000.
As reported earlier, Microsoft is offering its Windows OS without any licensing fee to Micromax and to two other Indian players – Karbonn and Lava. This is an attempt by MIcrosoft to get traction of their mobile Windows OS in highly price-sensitive market like India, which is dominated by Android OS. So far, Karbonn and Lava have not disclosed their plans to bring out Windows phones and Micromax is the first Indian handset maker to try Windows OS on its smartphones, which otherwise has made a niche for itself in Android segment.
We are expecting it to be a single SIM device though there is no official news on it yet. Wait for the release on Monday for full details 🙂
This mobile is dual SIM or single SIM?
