Micromax Canvas Win Smartphones On Windows OS Launched Starting At Rs. 6,500

The leading Indian handsets maker Micromax has joined hands with Microsoft and Qualcomm, to launch their two smartphones running on Windows 8.1 0S and driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor. These two smartphones are – Canvas Win W121 and Canvas Win W092. Micromax has become the first Indian smartphone player to launch two Windows-based phones. Till now, all the Indian players have smartphones in different range working on Android OS.

The Canvas Win W121 and Canvas Win W092 are priced at Rs. 9,500/- and Rs. 6,500/- respectively, and will be available across retail stores and e-commerce portals starting early July 2014.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, Chairman, Micromax said, “With our vision to democratize technology and belief in providing consumers with choice of platforms, we are pleased to introduce a new range of Windows-based phones. I am pleased that Micromax is the only Indian mobile phone brand to be present across the two most popular operating platforms in the world.”

The Canvas Win 121 and Canvas Win W092 run the latest Windows 8.1 OS and are driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. Both the smartphones support Dual-SIM.

The Canvas Win 121 sports a 5-inch HD IPS display, and comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, which can be further expanded upto 32GB via microSD card. This smartphone is equipped with an 8MP rear and 2MP front camera, and is fuelled by a 2000mAh battery.

On the other hand, the entry-level Canvas Win W092 features a 4 inches HD IPS display and also has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. This smartphone houses the 5MP rear camera with flash and 0.3MP front camera. This smartphone is packed with a 1500 mAh battery.

Both the Canvas Windows phones come pre-loaded with Internet Explorer 11. Both smartphones support Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi and 3G network. Besides, these Windows phones have advantage of Microsoft’s cloud storage tool OneDrive, which adds many other capabilities to Canvas Win smartphones such as Bing, Skype, Xbox Games, Office 365 and more to give consumers added value.

The Windows Phone App store boasts of over 300,000 apps to choose from and with Microsoft Office, the users can fulfil all their business needs on-the-go while entertainment enthusiasts can access an all-in-one music service through Xbox Music.

With the launch of economically priced Canvas Win smartphones, Micromax is offering the customers a choice to go in for Windows eco-system if they find themselves comfortable with such platform. Micromax Canvas Win smartphones will be ideally suitable for those customers who have limited budget and are not die-hard fans of any particular eco-system.

Micromax has brought only two econmically priced smarttphones to test the water and may bring out more Windows phones in higher segment if this experiment succeeds.
