Asus ZenFone Zoom which has been launched to capture the imagination of photographic enthusiasts come with very promising camera features.
ZenFone Zoom’s prowess lies in its 13-megapixel Panasonic SmartFSI sensor which has 10-element lens from Hoya of Japan. This camera provide 3x optical zoom and surprisingly there is not much bulge on the reverese where camera is provided. Since all the zooming is done internally and there is no physical movements on the outside and hence there is not noticeable bulk.
The camera of this phone comes with aperture from f/2.7 to f/4.8 and a 28-84mm focal length. The other useful features of this camera are optical image stabilization (OIS) to take steady shots, laser auto-focus and dual-color Real Tone flash. Depending upon the level of zoom, this camera has capability to focus in 0.3 seconds and you can click close-ups as near as 5cm (2in) for shooting more detailed images.
This camera comes with many enhancements modes such as super resolution, Low-light, depth of field, HDR, Time lapse, slow motion to name a few for enhancing the imaging quality as per the requirements and environments.
This phone also comes with a strap to enable you to wear it on your wrist while shooting.
We have clicked some images with 3x zoom in broad day light on ZenFone Zoom without using any enhancements and results are amazing. Some clicked images are reproduced below:
We reproduces some images taken in light with enhancement features such as super resolution and full HDR:
With normal mode
With Super Resolution mode
With HDR mode
These are the images clicked in total darkness with 3x optical zoom. Unfortunattely, the camera of this stature struggle a lot as far as shots clicked in the night are concerned. Whether this can be done by some software tweaks, we are not sure at this moment.
The Asus ZenFone Zoom also houses a 5MP front camera for selfies. We reproduce below one image taken in the light and the quality is quite good. For selfie lovers, who want to click the photos in good light, this camera phone is certainly for them.
Overall, the camera of ZenFone Zoom is a mixed bag of features. Its outstanding feature of 3x optical zoom in broad daylight or in good light will certainly mesmerise you but in the night or fading light there is struggle.
Probably, in the coming days lot of softare updates will be coming from Asus to address these issues.
