Airtel has partnered with Google for offering google mobile services at no data cost. This is implemented with the launch of “Airtel Free Zone”.
Airtel Free Zone allows users of Airtel mobile connection to access google’s services viz. Gmail, Google+ and Google Search on the mobile phone free of any data charge. Simply put, you’ll not have to pay any data cost and/or subscribe to any monthly, weekly or similar mobile internet plan in order to access Google’s mobile services.
Speaking at the launch, Rajan Anandan, VP and MD, Google India said, “The mobile Internet user base is growing really fast in India. Working with Airtel on this exciting trial means that we can offer Internet services at no cost to anyone with a phone. This gives people easier access to information in a way that benefits everyone, whether it’s an individual or a small business that wants to reach more people on the web. We hope this initiative will encourage more Indians to experience the value of the Internet and gain from it.”
He further added, “Students can easily look up for facts to work on their assignments, housewives will be able to easily check on recipes and connect with their friends and family from their mobile phones.”
There’s a catch to all this though, in order to access advanced services such as attachment(s), download external files or browse websites from the search queries in Airtel Free Zone, the user will be redirected to subscription page of available mobile data package(s).
