After slashing prices of BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10 smartphones in India, BlackBerry has now reduced the price of its BlackBerry Q5, which will be now available at Rs 19,990 as part of a limited time New Year offer. The BlackBerry Q5 is available in three colors, red, white and black. The BlackBerry Q5 was launched in India in July 2013 for RS. 24,900 and like Z10, Z30 and Q10, this device also runs on BB10. This is the second smartphone equipped with QWERTY keyboard and running BB10 OS.
BlackBerry Q5 is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor alongside 2GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. This smartphone is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera, capable of 1080p HD video recording and 2-megapixel front camera, capable of 720p HD video recording.. The smartphone is packed with 2,180mAh battery.
Commenting on price reduction, Mr. Sameer Bhatia, Director – Distribution for BlackBerry India said, “The New Year Bonanza aims at providing a powerful mobile device, with cutting edge BlackBerry 10 OS at an affordable price point to the consumers.”
In our blog of 16th July, we had mentioned that Q5 should have been priced” in the range of Rs 18,000 to 20,000″ keeping in view of the fact that mid-range Android devices which are available in the price range of Rs, 18,000, are selling like hot cakes in India . Probably,BlackBerry had some other idea in their mind in the month of July. Had they kept its price attractive at that time, they must have been able to move good number of boxes so far. Whether the price reduction at this stage will help BlackBerry in India, is any body’s guess.
