If you are planning to buy a phablet and the budget is not the constraint then you can seriously consider Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which was launched in India today at Rs. 53,990 for 32GB internal storage and Rs. 59,900 for 64GB variant. Of late, lot of big screen devices especially from China have flooded the Indian market at very attractive price-point, but if you are looking for elegance, well-designed device and truble free performance, no worry about after sales service support then I believe that your choice will definitely take you to Samsung store. Why I am vouching for Galaxy Note 5 is based on my initial overview of it for its five most prominent features and after using Galaxy S6 for the last three months as this device also derives its design from S6 and various features and capabilites of S6 camera.
Display
The Galaxy Note 5 comes with very vibrant 5.7-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) Super-Amoled displays with a pixel density of 515ppi. This display reproduces bright, crisp and true colors and it is a treat to watch full HD video on this screen. The display of Note 5 is not only gorgeous but sexy too to say the least.
Design
The Galaxy Note 5 has full-metal frame with glass on front and back. The design of Note 5 has been taken forward on Galaxy S6 and Samsung has improved upon the quality of glass on Note 5 to prevent stains on it. Its curved 3D glass back provides it an optimal grip. Despite its huge 5.7 inch screen, the bezel on all the four sides have been reduced considerably compared to the Note 4 to make it more comfortable to hold it in one hand. Moreover the glass is not slippery to hold and above all, while holding it, you have the feeling that you are carrying a designer piece of gadget.
S Pen
The most important feature of Note Series is its S Pen and Samsung has been enhancing the features of S Pen with each iteration. The Galaxy Note 5 comes with improved S Pen. While the previous version featured enhanced handwriting capabilities, increased pressure sensitivity and support for pivot, speed and tilt, the latest has been designed to be more solid and balanced in the user’s hand. It can be used just like a ball pen. It has a “push-pull” design and ejects more easily from the device, requiring only a quick click.
In the Galaxy Note 5, one can jot down on the screeen with S Pen even when the screen is off without even unlocking the phone and save the jotted content with it for using it later. It also comes with updated Air Command feature that works with S Pen only and shows a hovering icon for quick access to stylus tools from any screen at any time.
Moreover on Note 5, users can also annotate on PDF files and capture lengthy web articles or long images at once with the help of Scroll capture feature.
Performance
This device is ideal for enterprise use as it is powered by an Octa core (2.1GHz Quad + 1.5GHz Quad), 64 bit architecture processor, coupled with massive 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and options of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. During the short time spent with the device, it works without any lag; switching the apps is very smooth and there is no issue at all as far as working of this device is concerned.
This is a gadget that is must have for your critical and secured work as it is also equipped with enhanced security features like KNOX Active Protection (built into devices/out of the box) and My KNOX (app with simple/fast setup) to protect sensitive personal and work data.
Battery
Samsung is criticised for its inability to improve upon the battery life in its devices. To address the issues of frequent charging, the Galaxy Note 5 has been packed with 3000mAh battery, which will be good enough to last for full day with heavy usage. The other plus point is that this battery comes with fast wired and wireless charging technology compatible with virtually any wireless pad available today. With wired charging, it can be fully charged in approximately 90 minutes, and through Samsung’s latest wireless charger, this can be fully charged in approximately 120 minutes. These are the claims of the company and Samsung being a professional company, we can take it for sure. However, we shall be able to comment further on this feature when we test this device inhouse. The only drawback is that the battery is non-removable.
Besides above, the Note 5 gets its strength in imaging department from its camera capabilites. Like Galaxy S6, it is also equipped with 16-megapixel rear cameras with an f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilisation, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung’s advanced camera system on both the devices feature Quick Launch, which means that by double clicking the home button, the camera will be launched in less than one second. The camera also has improved video capabilities such as Steady Video, which provides Video Digital Image Stabilization on both the front and rear cameras for sharp, crisp video on-the-go, and Video Collage Mode, which allows users to record and edit short videos easily in various frames and effects.
Since I have been using camera on my Galaxy S6, I can say with confidence that the imaging quality of Galaxy Note 5 will also be superb as the camera is capable of giving excellent results and selfie lovers will be delighted to capture good looking and impressive selfies.
The Galaxy note also incorporates 4K(UHD) video filming and Live Broadcast ( developed in India), which lets users instantly live streams Full HD video straight from the phone to any individual, group of contacts, or even the public through YouTube Live. It also has SideSync feature, which allows for the easy transfer of content from the Galaxy Note5 to a PC or tablet.
Lastly and importantly, this time Samsung has priced reasonably its Galaxy Note 5. This device will be available from 20th September and with its vast RAM, Display and S Pen features, it will definitely convince you to visit the store to have a dekho if you are planning to buy a reputed phablet.
