Taiwan based HTC launched today its mid-range HTC Desire 616 smartphone at an event in New Delhi. This smartphone was announced few days ago in Singapore. It will be available in two color variants – Dark Grey and Pearl White. This phone is priced at Rs. 16,900 and will start selling in India from next week. HTC also launched HTC One (E8), which is watered down version of its flagship HTC One (M8).
The Desire 616 features a 5-inch display with an HD (720×1280 pixels) resolution. The key featture of this smartphone is that it is powered by a 1.4GHz Octa-Core processor, with 8 cores activated simultaneously. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. This phone is equipped with an 8MP rear and a 2MP front-facing camera. This smartphone runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS with a brand new Sense 6 UI on top.
To our view, this phone should have atleast 8GB of internal storage and Android KitKat OS. Nowadays, even the budget smartphones of India are coming with the latest Android KitKat OS.
The Desire 616 supports Dual-SIM- regular SIM +Micro-SIM, and is packed with 2000mAh battery, which is claimed to give up to 14 hours of talktime and standby time of upto 700 hours on 3G networks. The connectivity options for the Desire 616 include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, GPRS/ EDGE and 3G. This smartphone measures 142×71.9×9.15mm and weighs 150 grams.
As usual, the Desire 616 incorporates the celebrated HTC BlinkFeed feature. This feature was first introduced on flagship HTC One. With theis feature, the users can get via streaming the latest news and social updates direct on the home screen of Desire 616. Moreovre, with the offline reading mode, the users can view more than 20,000 articles from the world’s leading media companies everyday. This is an ideal option for those users who have limited data plan and can add upto good number of articles when connected to Wi-Fi and access them later for reading in off-line mode.
The Desire 616 also has Video Highlights feature with which videos created on the phone can be placed into your preferred sequence and blended with your favourite tracks and effects, which can then be shared with family and friends through social networks.
This time, HTC has played well with the price aspect of its smartphones and have priced the Desire 616 appropriately. The features packed in the device justifies the price and those buyers who are looking for the mid-range samrtphone, the Desire 616 will compell them to consider it seriously.
