Taiwan based HTC Corporation is expected to update its 16 smartphones with Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating System in the coming few weeks. They have not specified the exact date of update but it is expected to be around April end or mid May, 2012.
HTC had said in February that its Sensation line of smartphones would move to Ice Cream Sandwich in March. Company has already started rolling out Android 4.0 updates for Sensation and Sensation XE users in the select countries and others will follow soon.
As for when other HTC handsets will move over to the latest version of Google’s Android OS, the Taiwanese gadget-maker said “it is still working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules” and that it would “have more to share very soon.”
Part of the delay is that HTC isn’t just testing and then loading the new Android OS into the phones as is. The company is modifying the software with its HTC Sense user interface, and each carrier in various nations has specific functions and apps demanded as well.
HTC will be releasing these update over-the-air, and consumers will get a notification to download and install these update on their devices. Ice Cream Sandwich brings several improvements to the Android devices including UI revamp, performance enhancements, Face unlock and better browsing experience. Company suggests that you use Wi-Fi to download these update otherwise you might incur significant data charges.
