ICC Cricket World Cup Was Top Trending in 2015 in Google Search

Google India today announced its 2015 Year in Search results. Google’s Year in Search continues to offer a unique perspective on the year’s biggest interests, major events, and hot trends reflecting the aspirations, thoughts and imagination of Indians online.

India’s undying love for cricket showed no sign of cooling off with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and Indian Premier League ensuring that cricket fans were always close to their browsers for instant updates. On-field and off-field excitement is well reflected in Year in Search 2015 as ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 captures the top spot on the trending charts, as stated by Google India in its press statement.

Rajan Anandan, VP and Managing Director, Google India & South Asia said, “The 2015 Year in Search results is very much a reflection of India’s undying love for cricket and entertainment. The power of digital media continues to surge, especially searches on smartphones, a trend that is reflective of India’s growing digital emergence as the next billion Indians begin to embrace the power of the Internet.”

Besides cricket,tThe leading blockbuster ‘Bahubali’ trended the most with splurge in searches thanks to movie buffs across the country. Salman Khan Starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ also featured high on the list of trending searches.

Interestingly this year’s results presents an exciting mix of Bollywood (Bajrangi Bhaijaan, ABCD-2), Hollywood (Fast and Furious 7, Fifty shades of Grey), and Tollywood movies (I, Puli) highlighting the varied nature and interest of Indian audiences, adds the Google statement.

Year in Search result also gave an interesting view of the news events that caught the nation’s attention. The much debated Vyapam Scam remained being the top searched news event this year. As the nation paid tribute to India’s missile man, search interest around former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam surged high. Nepal earthquake, 7th Pay Commission, and Sheena Bora murder case convict Indrani Mukherjee also made it to the list.
