Indian Brands Top The Chart For Smartphones Launches In Rs. 5000-15000 Category – Report

India’s largest gadget research website 91mobiles.com has released very interesting report on the Mobile Phone Landscape in India in H1 2014. Theis in-depth report looks at the phone launches in H1 2014, launch trends by various brands, popularity of brands & devices in various price ranges, and what to expect for the rest of the year.

There are 83 different mobile phone brands present in India, and a lion’s share is constituted by Indian brands, with just 27 international ones present. Indian brands rule the roost in terms of phones launched with 80 percent market share in H1 2014.

Indian brands top the chart in maximum launches in the price range of Rs. 5.000 to Rs. 15,000. Indian companies topping the list in this category is Lava, Micromax, Intex and Karbonn, respctively.To tap this ever-growing segment, even overseas companies like Motorola, Asus, Xiaomi, Gionee, Lenovo, Obi Mobiles, HTC and LG etc. are bringing in their devices to meet the pockets of vast consumer base in India, which can not afford expensive smartphones.

Nokia only launched one device above Rs 15,000 in the first half, while Samsung didn’t launch any below it. The most popular budget devices in the Rs. 5K to 15K is Moto E, Moto G and Nokia Lumia 525 and 630.

In the mid-range segment of overseas brands, the battle is between Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Grand Neo, Moto X, HTC Desire 816 and Sony Xperia M2. As per our observation, Samsung’s Galaxy Grand range is the front-runner in this race. In the premium category also, Samsung is ahead with its Galaxy S5 followed by Sony Xperia Z2 and at the third spot is HTC with its HTC One (M8).

The exclusive online sales trend was started by Motorola in association with Flipkart and the success story of Moto range of smartphones was followed by other brands such as Alcatel with flipkart; Karbonn and Celkon with snapdeal. Another trend, which has been observed by is flash sale, started by Xiaomi of China, which has upset many prospective customers, who have to glued to their devices to register their order on the day of flash sale.
