In our article published on 18th July, we had written that Finland based Jolla has partnered with Snapdeal to sell their smartphone based on Sailfish OS, and the same will be launched in India in a month. Their launch was delayed a little bit, but now Jolla is set to launch their smartphone in India on 23rd September, which will be sold exclusively by Snapdeal. The company has sent a pre-alert for the upcoming event on 23rd September in New Delhi.
Jolla smartphone runs on its independent operating system, Sailfish OS, which is based on the heritage of Meego, an open source operating system formerly developed by Nokia among others.The Jolla smartphone has distinct button-less design, unique Sailfish OS gesture-based user experience, and Android application compatibility.
Jolla smartphone features a 4.5 inch IPS QHD display (960×540 pixels) with Gorilla Glass 2 protection, and is powered by a Qualcomm Dual Core 1.4Ghz processor, paired with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, which has provision of further expansion. This smartphone is equipped with 8MP AF rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera. This smartphone is fuelled by a 2100mAh battery , which is rated to provide 9/10 hours of talk time on 3G networks.
Jolla smartphone is compatible with GSM/3G and 4G LTE networks. It measures 131x68x9.9 mm and weighs 141 grams. The Jolla smartphone supports majority of Android applications as well as intuitive Sailfish OS apps.
The Jolla smartphone also introduces a previously unseen combination of hardware and software innovation, called “The Other Half”. By attaching specifically designed smart covers, the smartphone becomes alive and unique, utilising preset ambiences and functionalities, such as colors, fonts, sounds, profiles, and applications. Manufactured from ultra-durable and scratch resistant polycarbonate, “The Other Half” is the soul of Jolla, delivering a personal and unique experience.
Jolla had launched this smartphone in Hongkong on 12th August at HK$ 2,888 (approx. Rs. 23,000). Since it has medicore hardware specifications and screen size is 4.5 inches, it will have to compete with the recently launched new Moto G, which is priced Rs. 13,000 and Asus ZenFone 5 priced at Rs.9,999, and other Chinese brands.
