According to unconfirmed sources, domestic heavyweight handsets maker Micromax is almost ready to launch its first 3D smartphone, which will most probably be named Canvas 3D A115. Except 3D, this smartphone will have hardware specs inferior to its highly successful predecessor Canvas HD 115.
The new Canvas 3D smartphone will run the latest Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), and will have a 5-inch display with 800x480p resolution, 1GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB RAM. It is likely to sport an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front camera, 4GB internal storage and microSD support. The Canvas 3D 115 will have a price tag of around Rs. 15,000.
This device will be another addition to Micromax’s portfolio of smartphones and first 3D smartphone from its stable. It is not clear whether the new smartphone to be launched will have 3D playback capabilities or not. LG Optimus 3D, priced around Rs 26,000, is currently the only phone that supports 3D playback in the Indian market.
Of late, Micromax is very aggressive in promoting its recently launched entry-level to mid-segment smartphones. Its recently launched Canvas HD smartphone, is highly successful, but unfortunately getting lot of flak due to its short supply. Currently, its waiting period is approx. 2 weeks and this phone is a direct competitor of Samsung’s Galaxy Grand, but due to its delivery issues, has not impacted much Grand’s success in India. Hope, Micromax will address the issue of its supply before launching its Canvas 3D A115.
In smartphone segment of entry level and mid-segment, Micromax is doing quite well and giving even sleepless nights to industry leaders like Samsung in these segments. This is one of the reasons that Samsung is promoting its Galaxy Grand smartphone by offering 15% cashback and interest free EMI in association with ICICI & Standard Chartered Credit cards.
