Today is big day for South Korean giant Samsung as they have created much publicized media hype to unveil their latest iteration of highly successful Galaxy S series of smartphones – Galaxy S IV, in New York. The Korean company has rented New York’s Radio City Music Hall for an event Thursday evening, for launching their Galaxy S IV smartphone, to take head on with Apple’s iPhone. The new phone is expected to be available in stores in a month or two.
Since rumors mills are churning out many rumors for the last few weeks, one more website based in China IT 168 has leaked few images which states that the new phone to be 7.7 mm thick and 138g in weight. As per another speculation, The Galaxy S IV will sport a 5-inch screen, slightly larger than the one on last year’s S3. The US version will use Qualcomm’s quad-core chip, giving the phone more processing power to handle multiple tasks at the same time. In other markets, it will rely on Samsung’s “octacore” eight core chip.
The Galaxy S4, which runs Google’s Android latest Jelly Bean software, also will have a higher-density, 13-megapixel camera, up from 8 megapixels in the S3. The upgrade would put the new Samsung phone well ahead of Apple’s iPhone 5. That device has a dual core processor, a 4-inch screen and an 8-megapixel camera.
Earlier media reports had also suggested the new Galaxy, which uses Google’s free Android software, may have functions that track the viewer’s eye movement, and boast an unbreakable or flexible screen.
In 2012, Samsung surpassed Apple as the world’s largest maker of smartphones, controlling 30 per cent of the market versus Apple’s 19 per cent. But in the high-end market, sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S and Note still lag far behind Apple’s iPhone, the best-selling smartphone globally.
“I’m expecting them to come out with some new features they can hang their hat on,” said Avi Greengart, an analyst at Current Analysis, referring to the Galaxy launch. “As long as the Galaxy S IV doesn’t regress and as long as it’s competitive with the flagship phones from other phone manufacturers, I give it really good chances of winning consumer sales even if it isn’t different for the sake of being different.”
Be ready for the smartphone of the year 2013 and keep awaking tonight for getting updates about the launch event!
