Samsung has announced today that its flagship smartphone Galaxy S6 Edge has received the special honor of “Best New Handset, Tablet or Device” from the GSMA at Mobile World Congress 2015, in Barcelona. The award recognizes the best new device launched during the show. This is the second consecutive year Samsung received this award, following the Samsung Gear Fit in 2014.
Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy S6 Edge before the official commencement of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
“With the Galaxy S6 edge, we sought to blend technology and design in a way the world has never seen before,” said JK Shin, president and head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “We are honored that the GSMA agree that these are our most elegant and powerful devices so far.”
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge have received more than 20 prestigious awards on-site at MWC 2015, including Ubergizmo’s “Best of Mobile World Congress,” Mashable’s “Top Pick” and Laptop Magazine’s “Top Pick.”
The Galaxy S6 edge is made of metal and glass and Samsung claims that it has world’s first curved display on both sides. The Galaxy S6 Edge sports a 5.1-inch Quad HD (1440×2560 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 577ppi, and is powered by a Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5Ghz, Octacore application processor, coupled with 3GB RAM and internal storage of 32/64/128GB. It is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilisation) and LED flash and also houses a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies.
It is packed with a 2,600mAh battery with Ultra Saving Mode. Samsung has introduced for the first time wireless charging for this device. It runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
At MWC 2015, Samsung’s mobile security platform KNOX also received the prestigious honor of “Best Security/Anti-fraud Product of Solution” from the GSMA. The smartphones’ software and mobile security capabilities were recognized as the best solution launched during this year’s show in the enterprise mobile security division. KNOX has received rigorous government accreditations worldwide, including the United States Department of Defense.
