It has become a tradition in Samsung to introduce stripped-down version of its flagship devices to facilitate those prospective buyers who can’t afford their high-end models. Last year, Samsung launched Galaxy S3 Mini, which was lowerr version of its highly successful 3rd generation Galaxy S3. Similarly, Samsung launched Galaxy Grand in India earlier this year, to cater to demands of mid-segment level and this smartphone was placed between Galaxy S2 and S3. In the same vein, Samsung has announced Galaxy Mega 5.8 in India, which has many features of Galaxy Note series of smartphones and is priced at Rs. 25,100 to attract those buyers towards it who could not lay their hands on Galaxy Note II due to price-constraints.
Samsung has scheduled a press event in London on 20th June where it is likely to introduce Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, which was recently spotted on Samsung’s apps site. The company has named the event “Samsung Premier 2013,” and in its invitation, the company specifically notes its Galaxy and Ativ line of devices. Samsung uses its Galaxy brand for its Android and Ativ for Windows 8 devices. It is also being speculated that Samsung may also introduce ruggedized version of Galaxy S4, to take on with Sony’s Xperia Z.
If rumours are to be believed, the Galaxy S4 Mini wiill come with a 4.3-inch (Super AMOLED 960×540) display, a 1.6GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
Interestingly, Samsung event will take place after one week of Apple’s scheduled annual Worldwide Developers Conference, where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 7, the next version of its mobile operating system, and also give some idea about its upcoming new devices.
The timing of both the events are crucial and will set-up another battle between two arch-rivals of modern day technology.
