The Commonwealth Games, first event of which was held in 1930 under the title of the British Empire Games, is a multinational, multi-sporting event which involves competitions involving thousands of athletes from all over the world. Commonwealth Games are organised every four years and it is the third largest multi-sport event in the world.

The 19th edition of the Commonwealth Games 2010 is being held in India (3rd-14 October,2010 in New Delhi). The following options are available for buying tickets for the 19th Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi :

  • Outlets of Central Bank of India (Branches at Parliament Street, GK-1, Nehru Place, etc.),
  • Outlets of Hero Honda (In Gurgaon and Faridabad),
  • Via telephone booking, by calling CWG ticketing call centre 1800-200-1294 (Payment via credit/debit card and a booking number will be given),
  • Through the official Commonwealth Games website (Visit this link – e-voucher will be sent to you via email)

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been appointed as the official ticketing agency for the Games and the official website, for selling tickets online, was launched by Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna with bookings commencing from 04th June, 2010.

The tickets will be sold in 3 phases. During the 1st Phase, the ticket buyers will be provided with a confirmation voucher which will be exchanged for actual tickets 1st August, 2010 onwards. During the 2nd Phase, the ticket buyers will get actual tickets against every purchase made. And in the 3rd Phase, which begins from 2nd October, 2010, the tickets will be available at selected outlets. The reason for the sale tickets in 3 Phases is that the tickets, which are being printed at the Government of India Security Press in Nashik, are not ready yet. Therefore, for the time being only confirmation vouchers are being given now (For ticket sales in 1st Phase). These confirmation vouchers will be exchanged for actual tickets in August (In 2nd Phase).

All those buyers which are purchasing tickets via telephone booking or via the official web portal will have the option of getting their tickets delivered through courier or can opt for pick-up option. Moreover, another benefit that comes with the ticket price is that the ticket holder can travel free of charge by Delhi metro and government-run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses to reach and return from the venue on the day of the event (ONLY).
