Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday said if pesky calls or messages are sent through individual numbers then notice will be served to the customers while the number will be disconnected on second violation.
According to TRAI, 1122 subscribers have been issued notices while 111 subscribers have been disconnected. In case of telemarketers, 17 of them have been penalized. Registered subscribers receiving pesky messages or calls may lodge their complaint by dialing 1909 or sending SMS to 1909.
Despite a regulation which was imposed last month and which barred unwanted commercial calls and messages from disturbing mobile subscribers by levying huge penalties on the defaulters, including fines ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 2,50,000, pesky calls and spam text messages are back, with new methods. Many of these messages are generated online and telemarketing companies are using individual numbers to disturb the mobile subscribers.
TRAI, on their part, should fast track the redressal of complaints and should hike penalty for the offenders and only then they will not employ new means to disturb the subscribers. Consumer, that is you, should not lay back and wait for TRAI to do something, instead you should raise your voice and take corrective measure by lodging complaints against those who spam your mobile number.
