As promised by Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra ON 3rd March during the launch of Redmi Note 3 in India, the company has launched today its flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone at an event in New Delhi. The Mi 5 is the latest flagship phone from the house of Xiaomi and is being launched in India within a month of its global debut, becoming the first-ever smartphone in India to be equipped with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 32GB variant is priced Rs. 24,999 and will go on sale on 6th April. It will be available on the company’s online portal mi.com in white, black, and gold colour options.
The Mi 5 builds upon the design language of Mi Note. It has curved edges and a slim metal frame with a 3D glass body with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which makes it more strong and durable. This is very light weight device and weighs just 129 grams and has a thickness of only 7.25mm.
The Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and has bezel-less screen. The Mi 5 has a high screen-to-body ratio, which was made possible only by an innovative structural design that was nearly two years in development. Moreover, the display of this phone comes with 600-nit brightness, stemming from an increase to 16 LED lights behind its LCD display. The screen is also 17% more power efficient, which means that it is battery-saving despite being extremely bright, as claimed by the company.
The Mi 5 is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which has double the performance of Snapdragon 810 at half the power consumption. It comes with the Adreno 530 GPU which is 40% faster and 40% more power efficient than the Adreno 510. Mi 5 is also the first Xiaomi smartphone to ship with UFS 2.0 high-speed flash memory, which is designed to greatly surpass the performance of eMMC 5.0 by up to 87%. The Mi 5 comes with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage.
The Mi 5 is equipped with 16MP rear camera with a Sony IMX298 sensor, Dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and 4K video recording. The Mi 5 is one of the first devices in the world to ship with the new Sony IMX298 sensor, which is also Xiaomi’s first camera featuring Deep Trench Isolation (DTI), a pixel-to-pixel isolation technology for cleaner color separation. Mi 5 also comes with a 2-micron pixel 4MP front camera for clicking beautiful selfies.
This phone is packed with 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, which can charge up to 90% in just one hour, and is able to give two and a half hours of talktime after charging for just 5 minutes.
The Mi 5 also comes with front fingerprint sensor which is provided on the home button.. It supports FDD LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7 and TD-LTE bands 38, 39, 40, 41 and VoLTE technlogy, which allows users to make high-quality HD voice calls with supported networks. The Mi 5 runs Xiaomi’s newest MIUI7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
