Of late, Smart TV’s are becoming the norms in the homes for its plethora of features. To take advantage of massive potential of Smart TV business, Yahoo has forged alliance with Samsung Electronics to deliver news and weather information to the latter’s Smart TV devices via a new connected service.
The above stated information will be effected through “The NewsOn” panel on Samsung Smart TV, which will deliver the latest Yahoo news articles, videos and weather coverage to its users with the click of a remote. To get instant information about current events, you will have to click “NewsON” through your Samsung Smart TV, for a snapshot of the latest headlines. Once a story gets your interest, click through to see the summary, full article, or streaming news video. You can also check the weather with weekly forecasts combined with location and weather based photos from Flickr.
The “NewsOn” panel for Samsung Smart Tv’s would be available in select countries in Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East for now.
The “NewsON” main screen is a collage of photos and headlines from Yahoo news stories with a snapshot of current weather conditions for local cities. Now, instead of watching 30 minutes of a news program to get up-to-speed on current events, users can switch over to “NewsON” for the latest headlines. According to Yahoo, the NewsON Smart TV app will work even in low bandwidth environments.
In 2009, Samsung became one of the initial partners to integrate the Yahoo Widget Engine (now called Yahoo Connected TV) into its TV line. Yahoo and Samsung expanded upon that partnership in Europe in 2010. Last year, in November 2012, Yahoo and Samsung announced an expanded, multi-year partnership to integrate Yahoo’s Broadcast Interactivity platform into Samsung 2012 Smart TVs.
