After receiving rave views in Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where Nokia showcased its revolutionary 41 megapixel camera phone – 808 PureView, Nokia has launched today this much-awaited camera phone in a press-conference in New Delhi, at a price of Rs. 33,899.
The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology which is set to revolutionize high-end imaging in the smartphone sector. It lets users shoot photos at different resolutions, say 2 megapixel, 3 megapixel, 5 megapixel, high resolution 8 megapixel or full resolution. The maximum resolution you can shoot at is 38 megapixels in 4:3 aspect ratio and 34 megapixels in 16:9 mode.
PureView imaging technology is touted to be the result of many years of research and development and the tangible fruits of this work are excellent image quality, lossless zoom, and superior low light performance. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.
Nokia also announced its collaboration with Dolby Laboratories to bring outstanding cinematic sound experience for entertainment enthusiasts – Nokia 808 PureView is the first mobile device to feature both Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Headphones technology. With Dolby technologies, Pure View 808 can deliver high-definition (HD) content with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1-channel surround sound to HDTVs, audio/video receivers, and home theater systems. In addition, Dolby Headphone, available on the PureView 808, transforms content into a personal surround sound experience over headphones to create a natural, engaging, and authentic listening experience.
Besides, the camera performance also extends to video. The camera allows for 1080p recording at 30fps, with 4X lossless zoom thanks to the big sensor and powerful image processing which is said to be handling over 1 billion pixels per second.
The phone is powered by a 1.3 GHz processor, 4″ inch ClearBlack AMOLED display with 640×360 resolution underneath Gorilla Glass protection.It has 16 GB of internal user memory, with support for MicroSD cards up to 32 GB. The device has 512 MB RAM.
The phone runs on Nokia’s Symbian Belle operating system. But when asked at the press conference when this smartphone will be available on Windows OS, Mr. Vipul Mehrotra – Director and Head of Smart Devices, Nokia India, replied that this transition will take some time and he was non-committal about the time frame for this.
Nokia Pure View is available from today on-wards in White and Black colors in Nokia retails outlets across the country and on online portals like Flipkart etc. Nokia has also partnered with leading service provider – Airtel to provide 500MB of free data with every purchase.
