There is lot of excitement about Windows 8 on the eve of opening of Computex, Asia’s largest IT fair, which is held in Taipei this week for the 32nd time, from 5th to 9th June, 2012. Windows 8 is expected to be a key focus, and this can be gauged by the fact about announcements of four tablets on Windows platforms by Acer and Assus.
“Windows 8 is a historic moment for the worldwide Windows eco-system,” said J. T. Wang, Acer’s chairman, at a briefing in Taipei where the company also unveiled its new Aspire S7, a small laptop that runs on Windows 8.
W510 has a 10.1″ inch touchscreen to provide a wider viewing angle with vibrant, consistent and accurate colors. The most unique part of the W510 tablet is said to be the tri-mode, thereby allowing users to touch, type and view. A detachable keyboard dock can be connected to the tablet for optimal typing as well as extending the battery life up to 18 hours. According to Acer, rotating the tablet 295 degrees allows it to be used in presentation mode.
W700 features an 11.6″ inch full HD touchscreen as well as Dolby Home Theater for multimedia pleasure. It comes with a multipurpose cradle that allows for several viewing options. When using it in landscape, it can be tilted up to 70 degrees for better viewing, or 20 degrees for convenient touch. Furthermore, it can be used vertically like a portrait for easy browsing and reading. The W700 also has three USB 3.0 ports for expansion.
Prices of above tablets have not been disclosed yet and the same will be announced close on the heels of actual date of commercial launch.
Windows 8 is touted as Microsoft’s long-awaited riposte to the rise of Apple and mobile devices powered by Google’s Android operating system. There is no official release date but reports have predicted an October launch.
“In our view, the touchscreen experience enabled by Windows 8 is a massive step forward — simply because it makes computing more intuitive,” said Jim Wong, corporate president of Acer.
