Chinese giant Lenovo, which has widened its wings globally very successfully, has announced the launch of its ThinkPad tablet designed for Windows 8. This tablet is based on the upcoming Intel Atom Processor based mobile platform and Windows 8 Pro. The ThinkPad Tablet 2 will be 9.8 mm thin and weighs less than 600 grams. Lenovo has vast experience of manufacturing thin laptops and this has proved handy for them to come out with state of the art thin tablet.
This tablet has a 10.1″ inch HD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, pair of 2 megapixel/8 megapixel cameras, noise cancelling microphones and an HDMI port.
The tablet has multiple input methods, multi-finger touch and an optional digitizer and pen. The optional ThinkPad Tablet 2 keyboard and dock can be paired with the tablet for more PC-like computing in the office.
Lenovo wants to take lead in launching ThinkPad tablet when Windows 8 is launched in October, as other PC makers like Acer are also planning to come out with tablets on Windows 8 platform and Microsoft’s own Surface tablet. These renowned PC makers does not want to give much space to Microsoft for its hardware and hence they are in a hurry to launch their own hardware with Windows 8. Other reason for launching tablets by Lenovo and other PC makers is that these companies have abundance of expereince for manufacturing and selling their hardware on Windows platform and this tablet business will be an extension of their well-established business. They have all the insfrastructure in place and give tablet business required push with their established brand.
