As blogged today morning, Sony has launched today its flagship smartphone Xperia Z, which will be available in India from 12th March at a price of Rs. 38,990. This phone went on sale in Japan last month and is now available in 60 countries. As blogged earlier, Sony has not announced Xperia ZL, which was also expected at today’s media event.
The Sony Xperia Z features a 5-inch full HD 1080p Reality Display, a scratch-resistant glass body, and is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor. Sony Xperia Z’s Reality Display is powered by Mobile Bravia Engine 2, and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 OS. For camera, there is a 13-megapixel rear fast-capture Cyber-Shot camera and 2-megapixel front camera. The Xperia Z also features Sony’s legendary Walkman technology for amazing audio playback and this phone is 4G LTE compatible. This smartphone comes with Battery Stamina Mode that the company claims is for improving the standby time by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.
The novel feature of this smartphone is that this is water and dust resistant, as demonstrated by Sony’s brand ambassador Katrina Kaif. She put the Xperia Z in the water in front of the media and then brought out and the phone was perfectly alright. This smartphone features a full glass exterior, is 7.9mm thin weighing 149 grams and comes with a 2,330mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
Sony is also offering following apps on Xperia Z:
- Sony Music : 6 months free unlimited streaming and music downloads of over 15 lakh songs such as International,Bollywood & Regional songs from Sony Music library.
- Sony LIV : With this app, consumers can enjoy SAB,Sony Entertainment & Sony Max TV, and will have exclusive access to special moments of very popular KBC & Indian Idol. They can even watch over 77 programs and over 4500 hours of videos of their favourite programs.
- X4 Video : Xperia’ Z powerful Quadcore processor allows its users to play 4 videos simultaneously.
Sony has tied-up with Vodafone to offer 8 GB free data download for the first two months of Xperia Z purchase. The Xperia Z will be available in white,black and purple colors.
On this occasion, Sony has also announced that its Xperia Z tablet will be available by May 13 in India. It is world’s slimmest LTE tablet and features a 10.1″ HD Reality Display, and is powered by Mobile Bravia Engine 2 that is both water and dust resistant. The company has not announced the price yet.
The star of the today’s show was Katrina Kaif, which has been appointed as the new brand ambassador for Sony’s Xperia range of phones.
Sony India has declared today that it plans to spend around Rs. 300 crore on marketing of its smartphone in this fiscal year and their target to achieve sale of their smartphones is Rs. 3500 crore for one year from April 2013 to March 2014.
The Xperia Z will face competition from HTC Butterfly, Nokia Lumia 920 and upcoming smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S IV, HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro.
