My Friend Vaibhav Kanwal, in the previous post – Torrent Client For Symbian Phone, asked whether a similar ( Torrent downloading ) application existed for Blackberry OS too ?
All the blackberry owners might be knowing that Blackberry OS has a built-in firewall and security feature which are very (very) conservative with data handling. So, it actually becomes more difficult to develop an application that by passes the security features and allows you to download data from peers. Besides that, since Blackberry is a smartphone, running a torrent application will drain its battery much faster.
Everything being said, we thus get to the conclusion that Torrent application is, for the time being, impractical. However, the good news is there is a way around for downloading files in a torrent on your blackberry phone. There is an online torrent downloading portal known as BitLet which allows to download torrents online.
BitLet is an useful web tool, which allows you to download virtually any torrent files, without installing any torrent client. All you have to do is to copy the link of the torrent file in the field given on their homepage, and click Download torrent.
Although, the service is good and satisfies the need of Blackberry users but i am not in favor of it. Reson being, Torrent community is based on sharing and using this method you are doing one way transfer only 🙁
BitLet – Online Torrent Downloading
P.S – The service is experimental, so you might experience minor hiccups.
Hello paritosh can u tell me on which os ur bb is working cause I even try bitlet from all browser but I alwys get the message of java plugins
Now you can use BBtor – first torrent client for blackberry phones. http://bbtor.net
also my java is enabled
on my bb it just says loading virtual machine how can i fix this?
Go to options and check whether java is enabled
Dude its saying the same thimg on my bb..which bb do you have?
Well, i cant really tell what the problem is. Try to clean cookies as well. The java JRE plugin available was eclipse (AFAIK).
Hi Paritosh,
ive got the bb bold 9000 and you?
ive checked that everything java is ticked and it is. i cant use opera mini because then i have to pay for data but with my native bb browser its free and unlimeted.
i wonder if one can get a java JRE plug-in for bb or maybe a update of sorts.
thanx for the reply.
I did download a few (music) torrents via BitLet, it worked just fine for me. Make sure you have java enabled in your phone’s native browser or try using opera mini.
Did you get it to work? I’m curious bcause when I try to download, I too get a java
Error on the site! (Your broweser needs a java plug-in)
Verify that java is enabled in your mobile’s native browser.
Hi
its not working on my blackberry browser… because it says in yellow (in the site) check your browser has java-enabled. So whats up?
Oh great! I too agree with you Paritosh, although this is a quick fix but it will work. I have an 8GB memory card in my BB and I guess I might be able to put it to some good use.
Thanks for such an awesome find that too so soon, its commendable dude.
