To participate in Make In India initiative of Government of India and growing demand for smartphones and tablets in India, Optiemus Infracom Limited, a leading Indian telecom enterprise and Wistron Corporation (A Global Fortune 500 company), Taiwan’s leading Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), today announced a joint venture (JV) agreement, in presence of Mr Amitabh Kant, IAS Secretary – DIPP, Government of India, to set up manufacturing facilities for telecom products in India.
Under the agreement, this joint venture will manufacture smartphones and tablets in India. To start with, this joint venture will manufcature complete range of smartphones for HTC. On being asked by us during the press conference, Mr. Ravinder Zutshi, Managing Director, Optiemus Infracom Limited, informed that they are open to manufacture smartphones for other leading global brands also and are in the advanced stages of discussions with few of them.
This joint venture has capacity to manufacture 18 million smart devices annually in the first phase and gradually this capacity will be increased to 100 million devices per annum in phase II in two years.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Ravinder Zutshi, Managing Director, Optiemus Infracom Limited, said “It is a matter of great pride for us to actively contribute to the growing manufacturing ecosystem in the country. The JV of Optiemus & Wistron also informed the gathered media that over the next five years, the partners will strategically invest approximately US$ 200million in best in class infrastructure, technologies and processes, to cater to growing Indian and global demands of telecom products viz, smart phones, tablets and smart devices. The JV targets to create over 15,000 employment opportunities in India, over the next five years.
