Samsung India has launched today much awaited Samsung Gear S2, a sleek and smart wearable smartwatch in two different options – the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic. The Gear S2 Classic has an elegant Black finish with a matching genuine leather band and is priced Rs.25,800. On the other hand, the Gear S2 has modern design with durable stainless steel body and comes in Dark Grey and Silver case with a sporty band at Rs. 24,300. These devices will be sold by Samsung retail channels and by Flipkart.
Both the variants of Gear S2 comes with varied dial faces and can be customised as per the choice of the consumers. The customizable dial faces are both built in & downloadable from the dedicated app store. Besides look, all the two variants of Gear S2 have identical features.
The Gear S2 is quite light and is just 11.4-millimeter thin. It comes with 1.2-inch circular AMOLED screen with 360 x 360 resolution (302 ppi). The circular dial comes fitted with gorilla glass making it a versatile wear for all occasions. It runs on the latest Tizen OS and an optimized 1-GHz dual core processor coupled with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It is compatible with all Android devices (Kitkat version 4.1) with minimum RAM of 1.5 GB.
The Gear S2 is packed with 250mAh Li-ion battery that can last up to 1-2 days, as claimed by the company. The Gear S2 comes with Samsung’s popular Ultra Power Saving mode so user can extend battery life. This device can be charged on the wireless charging dock which comes in the box.
One of the highlights of the Gear S2 is its rotating bezel,that drives the unique Circular UI delivers probably one of the most intuitive, innovative and yet fun interfaces to have ever been created for a wearable device. This UI is a technological innovation designed specifically for wearable devices as it ensures users will have a quick yet precise method to comfortably access notifications and applications.
The Gear S2 comes with ‘Wearable driven’ app, developed by Samsung Research Institute, Bangalore that monitors physical game-play of sports such as Tennis, Golf & Cricket. Sports enthusiasts can get extensive data and even guidance on how they played their game.
The Gear S2 also works as a fitness tracker as it encourages consumers to stay healthy and active. The 24-hour activity log lets users view daily activity progress and patterns at a glance. It will also send reminder updates to motivate users to stay on track with their fitness goals. Besides this, the users can check e-mails, news and can even send important texts directly from their wrist.
The S Health app, activity sensors and 24H Heart Rate monitor work together to track your calorie burn round the clock. Plus, partner apps like Obino Gear Up, made specifically for the Gear S2, monitor and suggest ideal meals based on Indian food preferences along with exercise options. There are also other third party apps available at the Gear App store such as Nike+ for Running, workout trainers, lifestyle monitors, etc.
With a capacity for around 250-300 songs, the Gear S2 comes with a built in music player so that workout sessions, jogs and runs and games can be more entertaining and even motivational. Additionally, the Gear S2 can also remotely control music apps on the smartphone for a hands-free listening experience. Simple but engaging games including Hangman and Memory are also available for download on the Gear App store.
Samsung Gear S2 comes with NFC technology which will enable mobile payments without the need for a wallet. The Gear S2 is also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled and supports multiple communication modes for Call alerts, notifications and newsfeed. The Gear S2 is IP68 certified Dust and Water Resistant smartwatch.
For the discerning customers, variety of band options are also available with both the Gear S2 (Mendini, Warm Grey and Red) and the Gear S2 Classic (Grey leather and Brown leather) from Samsung.
