Smartphones manufacturers are over enthusiastic (as they always have been!) to cash in on this festive season. In the last two weeks, at-least three big manufacturers have launched their smart-phones especially for mid-level segment.
Business phone major Blackberry has launched the latest in its Curve series, Curve 9360. Weighing less than 100g, this mid-segment phone is equipped with Blackberry 7 OS mobile operating software, something Blackberry as well as its users are excited about.
Another launch was by HTC with its Explorer for the lower-end of the mid-level-segment (confused!?). HTC Explorer runs on Android 2.3, but its 600 MHz processor could be a bottleneck with users these days looking for powerful processors. Let us not forget why Nokia couldn’t cope up with its users, mediocre processor of ~450 Mhz plagued its mobile phones.
Moving on, the 3rd big mobile phone manufacturer viz. Samsung has also not left behind and launched three new models! First was the Omnia W, running the latest Windows phone 7.5 operating system and the next was the Wave III running on the latest version of Bada. For the entry-level segment, Samsung has introduced Galaxy Y, running on Android 2.3 and targeted at the social-media loving youth.
Market for Smartphones is hoting up and now competition will go crackers. Who will get maximum market share only the coming weeks/months will tell. On the flip side, this brings good news for you as a buyer. More competition among manufacturer’s , festive season implies lucrative deals, extra freebies and more importantly price slashes….! If I were someone looking to buy a new mobile phone then this will be the right time to do so. Prices will be lower than what you will get during the rest of the year (for Indians).
