If you are unable to read without your glasses then don’t worry. A new smartphone app claims to sharpen your vision by training your brain and subsequently shedding nearly 10 years off your ‘eye age’. Beginning of next year, a US company called Ucansi will launch GlassesOff, an iPhone app that could help you improve your vision when reading, as well as reduce headache and eye fatigue caused by aging eyes.
GlassesOff Mobile application helps people compensate for deterioration in their eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects by training the brain to process the resulting blurred images. This mobile software trains its users to detect patterns called Gaborpatches i.e blurry lines created by varying a grey background. To see improvement in your vision, you will need to train for 25 minutes three times a week for about two months, says the company behind this app.
According to Ucansi, clinical studies revealed that after 40 sessions of training with the app, volunteers were able to read more than two lines further down an optical chart held 40 centimetres from their eyes, that means a reduction in ‘eye age’ from 50.5 to 41.9 years! The GlassesOff mobile app will be available next year as an iPhone app and an online tool.
Other apps designed with your eyes in mind are Vision Test, an iPhone app that offers an array of tests for your eyes, including for distortion of images and colour distortions. Eye Exam Pro-Optometric Vision Centre is another app that provides information on your visual systems and tips to sharpen your eyesight.
Mobile applications for medical relief is a great invention and this will alleviate the sufferings of millions of people, if it is successful. Hope more and more companies in research and development of mobile app will concentrate on medico related app with the help of medical fraternity.
