US technology giant Adobe as part of its global launch, announced the latest version of its Creative Suite (CS6) of products with enhanced functionalities and support for 10 Indian languages in its InDesign software in India. Creative Suite is a collection of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications like Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign and Illustrator.
The release is particularly significant for the large Indian creative community, which is riding a wave of digital content, media and connectivity proliferation in the country. India’s Media and Entertainment industry is expected to register a CAGR of 15 percent to reach INR 1,457 billion by 2016, according to a recent FICCI-KPMG Report. The imminent arrival of nationwide 4G network connectivity along with affordable tablet devices are expected to generate significant tailwinds fueling growth in digital content creation and consumption.
The FICCI-KPMG Indian Media and Entertainment Industry Report 2012 cites that print media continued its strong growth trajectory owing to growth in incomes and consumption in the regional markets. According to the report, Hindi and vernacular segments now contribute nearly 60 percent of Indian print media industry. With an existing strong foothold in the print and publishing industry, InDesign CS6 will now make it easier for publishers to repurpose and manage content in multiple languages and simplify their digital publishing workflow.
“The inclusion of 10 Indian languages – Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, Oriya, Malayalam, and Kannada – is an important milestone for the regional print and publishing industry in India,” said Umang Bedi, Managing Director – South Asia, Adobe Systems. “We are excited about the tremendous market opportunity that this will open up for especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. It has always been our endeavor to democratize the publishing industry and latest version of Adobe InDesign CS6 is a stepping stone towards achieving that objective.”
“Adobe CS6 release has come just ahead of what is likely to be a period of unprecedented new opportunities for the Indian creative industry. This release includes what the creative professionals will need to bring their vision to life and manage how and where it is delivered to the end audience – whether on smartphones, tablets, the desktop or through traditional media,” said Umang Bedi. “Adobe is a leading provider of HTML tools, enabling designers to work efficiently and effectively, creating across devices and platforms such as iOS, Android, Windows Mobile or Symbian.”
“India is a very strong market for us and that is evident from the fact that about 33 per cent of our workforce is here…For a long time, we felt that our products should have support for Indian languages and in the new InDesign software, there is support for 10 Indian languages,” he said. The company does not disclose country-specific revenue details.
Another significant move by Adobe Systems to expand its market penetration is the launch of its online store in the country. Adobe India’s online store will sell the latest and most popular Adobe products in a simple, online transactional medium with billing in Indian rupees (INR). Adobe already has online stores established across 48 countries and by launching this store in India, it will now make it significantly easier for its users to buy the product of their choice and take advantage of great offers and promotions.
