Atlast, BlackBerry has got cheerful news – not from its smartphones but from its most popular BlackBerry Messenger service, which is very popular. The moment, they resumed the launch of BBM for Android and iOS platforms two days ago, the users have gone crazy and BBM app has been downloaded over 10 million times within 24 hours.
BlackBerry has written in its blog post that BBM rose very quickly in the Apple App Store free app rankings in the first 24 hours, taking the number one slot in more than 75 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Indonesia and most of the Middle East. BBM has received 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews.
“This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices. The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President, BBM at BlackBerry.
BBM can be downloaded free of charge for Android smartphones running on Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean and for iPhones running on iOS 6 and iOS 7. BBM app is not available on Windows platform.
Currently, BBM video calling and BBM voice calling features are not available on BBM’s app for Android and iOS, but Mr Andrew Bocking has assured that these features would be available in the future. He has written in his blog post,” We are committed to delivering a BBM experience on iPhone and Android that was equal to that on BlackBerry 10. That means bringing BBM Video, BBM Voice and BBM Channels to Android and iPhone customers too. My team is still committed to bringing those features to BBM on Android and iPhone in the near future”.
