Canada based BlackBerry has announced the launch of its second Android smartphone monikered as DTEK50. This is BlackBerry’s second smartphone powered by Android, following the PRIV. BlackBerry DTEK50 runs on Marshmallow 6.0 and incorporates BlackBerry’s unique security, privacy and productivity features.
BlackBerry claims that DTEK50 is the world’s most secure smartphone as it “‘encrypts all users’ information, including business critical data and personal data such as pictures, videos and contacts. Malware protection is also built-in along with back-up, wipe and restore capabilities. Additional software provides users with visibility and control over which apps get access to personal info or device features such as the microphone or camera. BlackBerry also delivers security patches on the same day that Google publicly releases information about them, while many popular Android smartphones put the users’ private information at risk of being hacked due to slow security updates.”
This phone is also ideal for enterprises as it allows for fast, simple and secure integration with an enterprise environment as well as easy access to numerous rich business and IT-managed apps. It also supports BlackBerry’s powerful suite of EMM applications and secure productivity solutions, including: WatchDox by BlackBerry for secure file-sharing, Good Work for business-class email and collaboration tools, Strong Authentication by BlackBerry as a VPN solution, SecuSUITE for Enterprise for secure voice and instant messaging communication, BBM Protected for encrypted messaging and BES12 for secure cross-platform management.
On the hardware front, the DTEK50 features a 5.2-inch, 1080p display. It is packed with an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage which can be extended upto 2TB via microSD card. It gets its juice from a non-removeable 2,610 mAh battery
On the imaging front, it is equipped with an 8MP front-facing shooter with a flash and 13MP rear camera with Phase Detection Auto Focus and a dual-tone LED flash.
This phone offers connectivity options of 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac ,Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC.
This phone has thickness of 7.4mm and comes with BlackBerry’s intelligent keyboard. Its smart keyboard learns how you type and uses that information to increase your typing speed and accuracy. Through the BlackBerry Intelligent Keyboard software, it provides word suggestions in up to three languages of your choice and lets you flick them into place for faster conversations. While typing, you can also swipe horizontally from left to right to delete a previous word, and swipe vertically from top to bottom to toggle between letters, numbers, and characters.
The DTEK50 is now available for pre-order from ShopBlackBerry.com in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands for $299 USD.
