Motorola’s Moto G is the most successful mid-range Android smartphone, which is being sold exclusively in India by the leading online retailer flipkart. The Moto G is available in 8GB and 16GB versions with GSM SIM suuport at Rs 12,499 and Rs. 13,999, respectively. Now, to take advantage of the popularity of Moto G, Reliance Communication (RCom) has launched the CDMA version of the smartphone with 8GB variant in the country at Rs 13,490. The 16GB variant has not been announced by them.
At the time of the launch of Moto G in India in February, Motorola had declared that flipkart is their exclusive distributor for Moto G smartphone and no other company of India is authorised to sell this device in India. RCom has now taken the entry from the back door and introduced CDMA version at a slightly higher price. RCom claims that the Moto G CDMA is imported from international markets and carry a one year warranty. They have not specified who will look after the warranty claims, but state in their website that the details of the warranty will be sent to the customers within 4 days from the date of order confirmation.
In these circumstances, would you prefer to buy a smartphone worth Rs 13,000 from a company, who is not able to tell you what arrangements are in place for warranty claims. Moreover, by buying CDMA version, you would be compelled to use Reliance network only and this network is not as efficient as that of Vodafone and Airtel. Since CDMA Moto G would be locked version, you would be wedded forever to Reliance network and if not satisfied with their services, you can’t break the relations with them.
This is my personal opinion that buying the CDMA version of Moto G from Reliance is not a good deal. Dear Readers, what do you think of this? Please share your views.
