Hero Cycles Launches Lectro Range of Electrical Pedal Assisted Cycles, Starting At Rs, 42,000

India’s largest bicycle manufacturer Hero Cycles today launched a new European brand, Lectro in India. Hero Cycles unveiled  Electric Pedal assisted cycles (EPAC) for the Indian market at starting price of Rs. 42,000 and which goes upto Rs. 83,000. These cycles are ideal for commuting in short distance, keeping you fit and reduce polution.

Over the next few months, the company will expand the offerings within Lectro from the current 4 products to as many as 20 in the EPAC category.

These four e-cycles will be first made available in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai and NCR in the fisrt phase and then in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra by the end of the year.

These e-cycles are equipped with detachable battery which can be charged in approximately 4 hours and once fully charged, you can cycle for over 50 kms.

This launch comes at a time when health and environmental experts in India are discussing the need for a shift towards eco-friendly transport mechanisms as a measure to curb air pollution.

Hero owned Lectro was first launched in Birmingham earlier this year and was successfully showcased at the Eurobike 2016 held in Germany in September. This received a very encouraging response in the European market as claimed by the company.

“EPAC is a nascent segment in the Indian bicycle market. Even as the premium bicycle segment has shown strong growth over the past few years, the EPAC segment has only recently started and has huge potential in the country,” said Mr Pankaj Munjal, Chairman and Managing Director of Hero Cycles.

Hero Cycles Limited is the largest cycle manufacturer by volume in the world. The company has a manufacturing capacity of 7.5 million bicycles per year, with its manufacturing units in Ludhiana (Punjab), Bihta (Bihar) & Ghaziabad (UP).
