Honor 8 Pro which was launched in India on 6th July will go on sale exclusively on Amazon.in from 10th July at Rs. 29,999 for Prime Members and will be available for all from 13th July in open sale. This phone will be available in Navy Blue and Midnight Black colors. Honor has played master stroke by pricing it less than OnePlus 5 which was launched in India last month at starting price of Rs. 32,999.
Earlier in flagship hardware specifications, OnePlus devices did not have any competitor in the price segment of around Rs. 30,000 but that moment is history now. Huawei has launched Honor 8 Pro at an attractive price point with impressive features to get large portion of space in 30K segment. How much they succeed, only time will tell.
Like OnePlus 5, Honor 8 Pro has USP of Primary Dual Camera set-up for which Huawei has already won many laurels. It comes with 12MP (Monochrome) and 12MP (RGB) Dual rear cameras for crisp, detailed and sharper images with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture and 4k video recording capability. For selfies, it is equipped with 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. It also has the advantage as it will come pre-installed with GoPro’s Quik mobile video editing app.
On the contrary, OnePlus 5 has two primary cameras of 16 MP with Sony IMX 398 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, EIS, dual LED flash and secondary Telephoto camera of 20 MP with Sony IMX 350 sensor, and f/2.6 aperture, Bokeh effect feature and 2x zoom capabilities. But one should not forget the fact that it was Huawei who started this trend of Dual Cameras and they have been more than successful with implementation of this technology on their Huawei P9, Honor 8 and Honor 6X, to name a few. Going by this, they will come out with flying colors on their latest phone also.
Besides cameras, Honor 8 Pro flaunts very impressive other hardware also. It sports a 5.7 inch LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels resolution and 515 ppi pixel density compared to OnePlus 5’s 5.5-inch (1920×1080 pixels) Full HD AMOLED 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display. Honor phone is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Kirin 960 processor with Mali G71 Octa-core GPU which I am not sure whether it is as fast as Snapdragon 835 used by OnePlus 5. But Huawei’s Kirin processors are state of the art and will definitely perform all functions at lightening speed. Both the phones have 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM and OnePlus 5 has higher version of 8GB RAM +128GB ROM also which is priced Rs. 37,999. In my opinion, 6GB RAM is more than enough and I am doubtful whether 8GB RAM can change the equation. Moreover, in Honor 8 Pro, you can extend the internal storage upto 256GB via microSD card which is not possible on OnePlus 5.
OnePlus 5 has the advantage of Dash charging technology which can charge its 3300 mAh battery from zero to full in approximately 40 minutes. On the other hand, Honor 8 Pro compensates this plus point of OnePlus with its big 4000mAh battery which has feature of fast charge.
Honor 8 Pro also incorporate Fingerprint sensor, Infrared sensor and runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) with EMUI 5.1 on top which is very neat and clean. It offers connectivity options of 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. This phone has dimensions of 157 x 77.50 x 6.97mm and its weight is 184g.
Honor 8 Pro has the distinct advantage of price over its immediate rival, OnePlus 5. It is cheaper by Rs. from OnePlus 5 and is probably the first smartphone to give tough challenge to supermacy of OnePlus.
