HTC Launches Desire 820, Desire 820q & Desire 816G In India

HTC India has launched today three new smartphones in India – Desire 820, Desire 820q and Desire 816G. HTC Desire 820 and Desire 820q will be avaialble in India from the beginning of November and the the prices of the two smartphones will be revealed clsoe to the availability, which will have interesting price tag as announced by the spokesperson of the company during the launch event. However, the price of Desire 816G is Rs. 18,990 and it will hit the retail shelves in early October.

Desire 820

HTC Desire 820 is premium-mid range smartphone, which is the successor to the popular HTC Desire 816. It features a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) displays and an 8MP front-facing camera and a rear 13MP camera with BSI sensor and f/2.2 aperture, which is claimed to capture quality images in both daylight and low light. It also incorporates Face Fusion software, which allows you to merge your features with those of a friend or celebrity for a completely original look; real time Live Makeup, which allows you to preview the image and set the desired level of skin smoothing before the image is captured and Photo Booth, where you can capture several moments in a single image.

The Desire 820 is driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 ( 1.5 GHz, Octa-Core CPUs & 1.0 GHz, Octa-Core CPUs) coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be extended upto 128GB via microSD card. It is packed with 2600mAh battery and measures 157.7 x 78.74 x 7.74 mm. It has weight of 155 grams. This smartphone runs on Android KitKat 4.4 OS with HTC Sense on top of it.

For connectivity, the Desire 820 offers options of 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz) DLNA and micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port.

With the Snapdragon 615 processor, the HTC Desire 820 claims to offer 4G connectivity at speeds of up to 150mbps. This smartphone also has front-facing stereo speakers and two powerful, dedicated amplifiers of HTC BoomSound.

The HTC 820 has unibody design, and the polycarbonate device is not only stylish but also boasts the excellent build quality. It will be available in Marble White, Tuxedo Grey, Santorini White and Milky-way Grey color variants.

HTC Desire 820q differs from HTC Desire 820 in two aspects. The Desire 820q is powered bya different quad-cor processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM. Rest of the features are the same as of Desire 820.

Finally, the Desire 816G is almost identical to the Desire 816,  which was launched at Rs. 23,990 in India in April and this smartphone has been receiving tremendous response in India. The difference between Desire 816 and Desire 816G is that the new variant is comaptible with 3G Networks only whereas Desire 816 has LTE connectivity feature also. HTC will continue to sell Desire 816.

The newly launched Desire 816G is driven by a slower 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, instead of 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU that fuels the Desire 816.

Just to remind our readers, the new Desire 816G and Desire 816 have similar features such as  a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) screen, 8GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded upto 32GB in Desire 816G and 128GB in Desire 816 via microSD card. Both are equipped with a 13-megapixel rear and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and 2600mAh battery These smartphones runs on Android KitKat OS with HTC’s own HTC Sense on top. Both smartphones support Dual-SIM ( GSM+CDMA).

HTC Desire 816 and Desire 816G also come loaded with dual-frontal speakers, BoomSound for enhanced audio quality, and HTC BlinkFeed, which enables users to remain updated with the latest news and social updates on its large screen.

According to HTC, they have market share of 5% in smartphone segment in India, which is expected to go upto 7% in the fourth quarter of this year. With the launch of these mid-range devices, HTC is quite optimistic that they will be able to achieve 10% market share in 2015.
