iPhone 5C Is Old Wine In New Bottle

Apple’s much-awaited economical version of new iPhone 5C could have been last hope of those Apple enthusiasts who could not buy earlier iPhone 5 because of its high price, especially in emerging markets like India and China.

The iPhone 5c has almost the same specifications as of iPhone 5. The new iPhone is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera, 4-inch screen, A6 processor, 1 GB RAM and 1.2 megapixel front camera. This phone is largely made of plastic and doesn’t have the aluminum side and glass back found in the iPhone 5.

However, the 5C has been made more colorful to lure youngsters to buy it. It comes in a choice of green, blue, yellow, pink or white colors, rather than the traditional black or white. The other plus feature of this phone is that it runs on the latest iOS 7 OS, which has many advanced features, and which has been receiving rave reviews from the tech analysts.

The iPhone 5C disappoints at the price front. Contrary to expectations, this phone is priced at $549 for 16GB and $649 for 32GB versions in US, which are on very high side. The prices of these devices will be much higher in India and China after factoring in local taxes and in these markets there is no trend especially in India of carrier subsidies.

It appears that even Apple is not very much interested to promote its iPhone 5C. “There’s always a large junk part of the market. We’re not in the junk business,”  said Tim Cook in the interview with Bloomberg Businessweek. Apple wants to maintain its brand-equity and would be comfortable in high-segment business.

Bu that does not mean that customers have lost interest in Apple iPhones. Many Apple lovers have made serpentine que in front of Apple stores accross the globe when iPhone 5C and its advanced version iPhone 5S went for sale. As per the initial reports appearing in the media, majority of people are showing interest in iPhone 5S compared to iPhone 5c and as reported earlier, consumers are crazy about golden color of iPhone 5S and this has been sold out in Asian markets.

Both the phones- iPhone 5C and 5S does not have any design change and looks almost like the old iPhone 5. It seems Apple has stagnated with the hardware and design appeal of its iPhones. Moreover, in order to take on with competitions of  Android smartphones of Samsung, HTC,Sony and LG and of Chinese players, it was expected that Apple will have attractive prices especially for iPhone 5c, which were targeted at emerging markets like India and China. But this iPhone is very expensive and Apple will not be able to move much of this device in India and China. The best alternative in this case would be to get hold of an iPhone 5C via some kind of giveaway like the one being organized by MobileFun 😉

Anyhow on a more serious note, there is not much in the new device that one will be over-enthusiastic to buy it for its high price tags, when the customers have various options of Android and Windows devices, which are quite cheaper. It can be rightly said that the iPhone 5C is old wine in new bottle.
