The time is opportune for Apple to take advantage of auspicious occasion of Diwali when majority of Indians buy new products for themselves and for gifting and the new iPhones may be ideal smartphone for gifting especially in the corporate segment. iPhone 5S – This phone has screen size of  4 inch with  retina display, and is powered by a chip with a 64-bit architecture, instead of the 32-bit chip used in most smartphones. This chip will enable it to run applications and play games at speeds twice as fast as the iPhone 5. The most significant feature of the iPhone 5s is the Touch ID  fingerprint identity sensor, which is  integrated with the phone’s Home button, to unlock your phone and gives you added security. Besides unlocking, fingerprint recognition can be used for approving purchases from iTunes Store, the App Store, and the iBooks Store. The iPhone 5s claims to offer up to 10 hours of talk time on 3G and standby time of 250 hours. The new iPhone 5s will run on latest iOS 7 OS. The iPhone 5s will be available in gold, silver, and space gray colours.

iPhone 5c –  has almost the same specifications as of iPhone 5. The new iPhone is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera, 4-inch screen, A6 processor, 1GB RAM and 1.2 megapixel front camera. This phone is largely made of plastic and doesn’t have the aluminum side and glass back found in the iPhone 5. The 5C also is more colourful. It comes in a choice of green, blue, yellow, pink or white, rather than the traditional black or white.

What would be the price of iPhone 5S and 5C in India? Apple has not disclosed the Indian prices yet. The unlocked 16GB versions of the iPhone 5c is available for $549 in US, which works out to be approx. Rs. 35,000, and the iPhone 5S is priced at $649, which works out to approximately Rs. 41,000 at today’s rate of exchange. If we add, freight and custom duty, our asssumption is that iPhone 5c should be priced around Rs. 39,000 and iPhone 5S price should be around Rs. 49,000. As a matter of fact, in order to make the prices attractive as India is price conscious market and here selling under contract system is not vogue, the ideal prices should be Rs. 34,000 and Rs. 42,000 for iPhone 5C and 5S, respectively. Since Apple has plans to sell these devices in each and evey nook and corner of India, they will have to undercut the prices a little bit for India, to keep their boxes moving in good numbers.

  1. I quite like the S3 and S4 but haven’t really looked into the Note 3, so I will have a read-up on that. Thanks.

  2. Has this been delayed now or is the date still 1st November? I guess its perfect timing if the Diwali festival is set for that weekend.
