There is a good news for the SMS lovers in India! Earlier TRAI had imposed a restriction of sending 100 text messages per day in lieu of ever increasing spam messages. However now, consumers will be able to send up-to 200 SMSes per day from a SIM, as against the earlier limit of 100 SMSes per day, imposed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM. TRAI has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM to 200 SMSes per day per SIM, TRAI said in a statement today.
To deter unsolicited SMSes by telemarketing companies, TRAI had earlier restricted the number of non commercial SMSes that can be sent from a SIM to 100. There was no restriction on commercial messages sent through telemarketing companies registered with TRAI. The new cap of 200 SMSes per sim per day will be effective from today i.e 1st November, 2011.
I sincerely hope that this amendment will not be used for pesky SMSes. TRAI should also address the issues of pesky calls and SMSes, which still disturb the consumers.
Cool
democratic nation someone is deciding how many sms we should send per day, are we in the years before 1947?
